Built in 1905, this is one of the oldest and most beautiful homes in Moultrie. It was built by William Henry Barber, a magnate in the turpentine industry, for his wife Florence and their five children. [The photo, above, shows the house around 1911. The man standing to the far right of the photo is William Henry Barber. Some of his children can be seen on the swing. Note the baby in the carriage.] The Barber family, over two generations, lived here for 50 years

William was born at Catherine Lake, North Carolina in April of 1862, the son of Thomas Richard Barber and Alvana Groves.  About 1893 he married Florence Parrish also from North Carolina; according to the US census of 1900. They had five children; Leroy, Myrtle,

In 1955 Dr. John and Isabel (Bela) Tucker purchased the property and moved from Bainbridge, Georgia. They and their five children spent more than 40 happy years here.

The house now bears the names of these two families, who loved it and made it their family home for so many years.

In 1998 Linda Crawford purchased the house and set it up as a bed and breakfast. She was unable to begin operation due to the illness of her young daughter.

In 1999 Robert and Sharon Herndon purchased the property and opened it as a bed and breakfast. Shortly thereafter, Sharon became ill and they were not able to operate it regularly as a business.

In 2003 Thomas and Susanne Voss purchased the property and moved from Atlanta. They were delighted to continue and to build upon the tradition of excellence and elegance that had been a part of this beautiful home for 100 years.

The Beautiful Barber-Tucker House closed in January of 2010 and sat vacant for more than a year and a half until Fate brought its newest owner from New York State to Moultrie. GA to take on the challenge of renovating and reopening the elegant mansion. Fran Ambroselli, its current owner is not new to the hospitality world. She had successfully owned and operated an elegant historic bed and breakfast in the Finger Lakes Region of New York State. When a devastating fire engulfed the beautiful late empire period home it not only destroyed the business but took away her purpose for getting up every morning. Confident that God had a plan for her, Fran attempted to begin a new life in retirement until August of 2011 when like a Phoenix rising from the ashes she arrived in Moultrie ready and anxious and excited to begin anew.

Fran loves to share the stories of how Faith has worked in her life, bringing her to the "City of Southern Hospitality" where she has fallen in love with this new venture; The Barber-Tucker Bed and Breakfast Inn.

"I believe that your visit to Southern Georgia should be more than a destination. It should be an experience that you will remember fondly, and wish to repeat again and again." Fran (owner and innkeeper)
